Sergey Gorshkov really enjoys to photograph bears. He is one of the few photographers who can capture the detail of a brown bear’s life in its habitat. His specialty is working in close contact with his subject. He prefers to use a wide angle lens at close range - which is precisely the way he has managed to make his shots of bears unique. His favorite place for taking his photos is Kamchatka: “This krai (region) has special, magical powers. Kamchatka is the only place humans can feel a part of the wildlife. Porogi (Thresholds) is the oldest and longest serving hydroelectric plant in Soviet Union and Russia

 

Porogi (Thresholds) is the oldest and longest serving hydroelectric plant in Soviet Union and Russia, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009. There is an eponymous village nearby with a population of twenty people, which nowadays, due to a station, is self-sufficient from external sources of electricity. The village is located on the shore of an artificial reservoir; this is an equipment power station which was built by the Germans and has been working almost continuously since 1909. Nearby, an abandoned mini-plant for the smelting of ferroalloys, lies. The hydroelectric plant was originally built for the needs of the mini-plant, and since 1993 the complex has received the status of a monument of international significance by UNESCO.

The International Aviation and Space salon MAKS is a rightful occupant of a leading position in the ratings of major world aviation forums. The Kaliningrad Zoo was founded in 1896. It was formerly known as the Königsberg Tiergarten in the then German town of Königsberg, which in 1945 became part of Russia and was renamed Kaliningrad. Thus, the zoo is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Russia, and one of the largest. Its collection, which extends over 16.5 ha, comprises 315 species with a total of 2264 individual animals (as of 2005).

Königsberg Tiergarten comprised upward of 2000 individual animals in the year 1909. It was due to the military engagement during the taking of a city in April 1945 that only a badger and fallow deer stayed alive. A few day after the takeover, solders found a frightened and starveling hippopotamus. He had six wounds.

Located in the south of the Russian region of Siberia (between Irkutsk Oblast to the northwest and the Buryat Republic to the southeast, near the city of Irkutsk), the body of water is also known as the "Pearl of Siberia".
